At Mk Awnings, we install awnings and offer custom-made awning fabrics. We work with 100% customized structures that adapt to any terrace, garden, or patio. If you think the fabric or canvas needs replacing, you can contact our department, and we will be happy to advise you on measurements, colors, ideas, and technical specifications. We offer all types of awning fabrics. Depending on the benefit you require (sun protection, rain protection, wind protection, etc.), we recommend one type of fabric for each awning.
What types of awning fabrics are there?
Acrylic canvas
It’s one of the most recommended materials for awning fabrics. The same fabric used for traditional awnings. It’s a breathable, mass-dyed acrylic material, which guarantees a much longer-lasting color and superior quality to awning fabrics from major brands.
PVC awning fabrics
They are suitable for climates with a lot of rain, as they are waterproof but not breathable, so their shade won’t have the cooling effect that acrylic awning fabrics do. They are also highly wind-resistant because they don’t tear.
Microperforated canvas for awnings
Also known as Screen, this is a fabric widely used in commercial patio awnings. It’s breathable and repels heat, while being slightly more waterproof than acrylic canvas, as it’s made of PVC and polyester. In other words, it’s synthetic. This also makes it more resistant to mold. However, it’s generally less cool than acrylic canvas. Use it if you live in a climate that experiences equal amounts of rain and sun.
Eco-friendly fabric for Green awnings
Acrylic canvas with a self-cleaning treatment that purifies the air while cleaning the canvas. It’s the ideal option for combating climate change and is environmentally friendly.
Polyester canvas
Polyester is a synthetic fiber that is highly resistant to tearing, but UV rays quickly degrade it, causing it to lose its original properties. It is also a material with poor thermal insulation. This type of fabric is recommended for awnings that are not exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

Awning fabric colors
When we think about changing the fabric on our awning, color and shades come to mind. Will it look good on my terrace? Will I get tired of that color? Does it match my furniture? Will it be too hot?
Dark canvas provides more sun protection than light-colored canvas (think of the sunglasses effect). Choose dark canvas colors to combat extreme sun exposure, and light colors for shaded areas where the sun doesn’t shine all day. White absorbs less, but also emits less heat than black, making it easier to maintain the interior temperature. Cool colors also help cool the interior; oranges and yellows, on the other hand, can make it feel warmer.
If you live in an apartment building or a townhouse, there are usually community regulations requiring you to use the same awning color as your neighbors to achieve a uniform facade. If you live in a penthouse, a detached house, or if it’s for a street-level business, you can choose the awning you like best.

What to consider when choosing a canvas for your awning
ENERGY SAVING
Choosing the right solar protection fabric significantly improves the energy efficiency of buildings, contributing to a reduction in energy consumption during the hottest months.
EASY CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Our awning fabrics are high quality and have excellent technical qualities, such as repelling water and dirt, making them very easy to clean and maintain year after year.
This is a very simple maintenance procedure. Just follow these five basic tips:
- Vacuum up dirt periodically.
- If necessary, clean with neutral soap, a sponge, and water at a maximum temperature of 30°C. Rinse with water.
- Always let the canvas dry completely before rolling or folding.
- Do not use abrasive products.
- In winter, store the awning in a cover or trunk.
