When do we recommend installing an awning motor?

If your awning is box-style or longer than 3 meters, MK Awnings recommends adding a motor. This way, you can begin to enjoy the comfort and benefits of an automated awning year-round. A Somfy awning motor converts your crank-operated awning into a motorized awning operated electrically with a remote control or push-button. Our awning motors are compatible with most awnings, although they are also compatible with new installations. We can add a motor to a box-style awning, extendable awning, or straight-point awning—in other words, to any type of awning currently on the market.

How do you install a motor on an awning?

The installation of an awning motor is usually performed by a professional. They will help you choose the right motor for your installation and assist you with:

– Explain the benefits of motorizing an awning
– Install the appropriate motor
– Connect the remote control

Why did we choose a motor for our awning?

Comfort inside

With the touch of a button, we can activate the awning and protect ourselves during the sunniest hours. This way, we can
create a microclimate inside the house without having to turn on the air
conditioning. The house will be shaded, and this will lower the temperature inside.

Remote control

By adding a motor to your awning, you can control it remotely and choose when you want it to open or not.
For example, if you’re going on vacation and want to reach your destination and also have your awnings, curtains
, or blinds open or closed, you can achieve these benefits with the Tahoma Somfy home automation system
. It’s easy to install and very convenient.

There are different ways to control these systems, and today you can choose the one that best suits your lifestyle. We can activate our motor by remote control, home automation (Tahoma system), a wall button, or a voice assistant.

To enjoy your terrace in winter

The awnings have LED lighting and heating accessories that are ideal for outdoor terraces. If you have a motorized awning, you can access these applications and simply enjoy greater comfort with a single voice command.

For example: “Hey Google… activate the BBQ setting.” And then your awning opens, your blinds lower to keep smoke out, and your outdoor lighting turns on.

Extends the useful life

A motorized awning retracts the frame and canvas into a metal box. This is a great option if you want to extend the life of your awning and keep its finish looking like new. We can also add wind, sun, or rain sensors to further protect the awning from inclement weather year-round.

There are different types of motor models with their own specifications and customized systems. Our technical department will advise you on the different models and ensure your selection and the most suitable one for each installation. For example, the Sunea model is perfect for cassette awnings, and the Sunilus motor is perfect for extendable awnings. Our awnings can also be adapted to different applications such as blinds, shutters, projection screens, and more. We also offer an extensive range with technical specifications and sensors that can be assessed by a specialist before installation.

Advantages of a motorized awning

  • Move your awning effortlessly and remotely thanks to the radio control
  • Place the awning in your preferred position with a single click
  • Aesthetics and durability of the awning
  • Perfect closure of the chest to prevent deformations in the fabric
  • The fabric is not forced to preserve its durability and finish.
  • The fabric remains correctly taut over time, without bagging effect
  • Take advantage of all the benefits of io-homecontrol feedback for your terrace.
  • Full communication with sun and wind sensors
  • Easily customize sun sensor groupings and thresholds from the remote control
  • Access the rest of the io-homecontrol digital home control offering for more security,
    energy savings, and convenience.
