Many customers ask us about rain awnings, and the first thing we want to emphasize is that awnings for this purpose, as such, do not exist. The sole purpose of an awning is to provide protection from the sun. Therefore, we will try to explain that awnings exist on the market with waterproofing capabilities, but these are sun awnings with features that make them waterproof or rain-resistant.
If we have the awning deployed and it starts to rain, we don’t have to worry about the canvas being damaged quickly, since the fabrics have technical and water-resistant qualities. However, we should retract it for storage and help protect it.
Awning fabrics are the key to better understanding the concept; their characteristics and qualities are specific to different weather conditions.
- Waterproof tarps: water-resistant, which differ from the normal acrylic fabric of awning tarps.
- Acrylic canvas: with water evacuation capacity and extra weight to prevent leaks.
- PVC tarps: plastic coated, which prevents water penetration under the layer.
- Technical tarpaulins: designed to act as a barrier against atmospheric agents such as rain.
That said, we have a superior fabric that can stop the rain, but it does not ensure the complete watertightness of the area covered by an awning.
Is there a rain cover? Would you like to know if there’s a rain cover that isn’t made of fabric or canvas?
Our team of professionals discusses and highlights the versatile or tensioned pergola and its functionality, the bioclimatic pergola, and the A2 pergola. Below, we briefly summarize their features.
Tensioned or versatile pergola:
This aluminum structure offers freestanding or wall-mounted options. It features a laterally sloped rainwater collection system, always operated by a motor. It has a channel in its legs to channel rainwater and ensure its free circulation, thus avoiding potential obstructions. Its refined design and aesthetics blend perfectly with any interior design; the finishes are available in any RAL color.

Pergola A2:
It’s the same tensioned pergola but attached to the wall, so it only rests on its two front legs. It takes up less space, making it a favorite for smaller terraces. Ideal for its contemporary aesthetic, it’s made from a tensioned fabric secured to a system of crossbars with carriages and guides that allow horizontal movement. A drip-stop system for rain protection is available upon request.
If you want to keep water out and be completely protected from the rain, you should opt for our suggestions and recommendations using 100% waterproof, laminated PVC fabric. This improves its rain resistance but limits natural ventilation. This fabric is denser and therefore doesn’t breathe as well as acrylics (in summer, they concentrate heat under their layer).

Bioclimatic Pergola:
Our Bioclimatic Pergola option is ideal for complete shelter from the rain and various weather conditions. They naturally regulate the room’s temperature while protecting against solar radiation, rain, wind, or snow. A bioclimatic pergola with adjustable slats is the best solution for expanding the living space of all types of hospitality and catering businesses. The slats are made of aluminum, and you can choose the degree of opening to allow sunlight or breezes in. If it starts to rain, you can close it completely without any problems.
