Our latest project has taken us directly to the heart of the Costa Blanca: the iconic Paseo del Arenal in Jávea (Xàbia). We had the pleasure of collaborating with the renowned Chabada Restaurant, a leading gastronomic establishment on the beachfront, completely renovating its terrace to offer its customers a unique experience under the Mediterranean sun.
Restaurant terraces facing the seafront encounter a significant challenge: they must contend daily with the intense summer sun, humidity, salt air, and strong gusts of wind.
The goal of the Chabada restaurant was clear:
- Ensure maximum shade and coolness during peak hours.
- Maintain a fresh and sophisticated Mediterranean aesthetic.
- Use highly resistant materials that can withstand the saline environment.
The solution: Install a Palillería awning with printed acrylic canvas.
To meet the client's requirements and the area's aesthetic regulations, the MK Toldos technical team designed and installed a Palillería model awning. These are the technical specifications that make this project a success in sun protection for the hospitality industry:
White Lacquered Aluminum Structure: The extruded aluminum with a lacquered finish offers exceptional resistance to marine corrosion. The white color adds brightness and integrates perfectly with the restaurant's modern, Ibiza-inspired style.
Palillería System: A lightweight and elegant solution that allows the awning to be extended and retracted smoothly, adapting to the current weather conditions.
Custom Printed Acrylic Fabric: Instead of opting for a solid color, a high-end acrylic fabric with a floral print was created. This choice not only optimally filters UV rays but also creates a play of light and shadow inside, reinforcing Chabada's welcoming, chic, and tropical atmosphere.
Why choose acrylic canvas?
- Durability and Sun Resistance (Solution-Dyed) Unlike other fabrics that are dyed after manufacturing, high-quality acrylic yarn is solution-dyed. This means the color penetrates to the core of the yarn before weaving. The color won't fade or turn rancid over time, withstanding even the most intense UV radiation without losing vibrancy.
- Excellent Thermal and Solar Protection
- Acrylic fabric acts as a true shield against heat. It blocks a very high percentage of ultraviolet rays (typically between 90% and 99%, depending on the thickness and color) and drastically reduces the temperature under the awning, creating a cool and comfortable shade.
- Weather Resistance and Water Repellency
- These awnings are usually treated with fluorocarbons during manufacturing. They repel water and dirt. They don't tear easily in moderate winds and are highly resistant to mold and mildew growth, which is vital if the awning is rolled up for months during humid periods.
- Breathability (Prevents the "greenhouse effect")
- Because it's a fiber fabric and not a waterproof plastic tarp (like PVC), acrylic "breathes" and allows the heat accumulated under the awning to escape upwards through the fabric itself, preventing that stuffy or enclosed feeling.
- Impeccable aesthetics and versatility
- The acrylic finish mimics the elegance and warmth of traditional textiles (like cotton), but with 21st-century technology. It allows for perfect definition of prints (like the floral ones you have in your Cabaña photos) or vibrant solid colors, giving a sophisticated and high-end look to any facade or commercial terrace.

A sheltered restaurant terrace with a pleasant temperature inside and a carefully curated aesthetic that catches the eye of passersby with its finishes and colors.
