When summer arrives and we open our awnings, we often find that the fabric is torn, faded, or covered in stains that won't come out. Many of you call MK Awnings and ask if it's worth replacing just the canvas or if we should replace the entire awning. And the answer is yes, a resounding yes.

When is it worth changing only the fabric?

    • The structure is impeccable: The aluminum, brackets, and extendable arms or cassette are all in good condition.
    • The mechanism/motor operates smoothly: It opens and closes without jerking or unusual noises.
    • You want to update the look: Your old green/yellow striped awning works well, but you want to give the facade a modern touch with a solid color (anthracite, beige, etc.).
    • Replacing only the fabric is a much faster, simpler, and more economical process if the awning requires it after an inspection. Installation is very quick, hassle-free, noiseless, and requires no construction work!

    When it's NOT worth it

After our technicians analyze and check the structure, fabric, and motor, we must make a decision regarding the following points to be developed:

    • If the motor or mechanism is at the end of its lifespan, then the most sensible solution is to replace the entire assembly. If the motor or frame has many hours of use and you're experiencing noise or other issues, then we should consider a new awning.
    • If the frame is no longer properly tensioned or misaligned, the arms are bent, or there's play in the system, then we must assume it's neither optimal nor safe enough to extend the awning's lifespan.
    • Old structures corroded by salt air: (This is extremely important for our area of Dénia, Jávea, and the Costa Blanca). If salt air has corroded the metal or the wall anchors are unstable, then we must take this into account to ensure the awning is properly secured to a sturdy structure inspected by our technicians for a safe and reliable installation.
    • Real Savings: Replacing just the fabric typically costs 40% to 60% less than installing a completely new system. So, if the structure is sound and the motor is working properly, MK Awnings can advise you on replacing the fabric simply to bring your awning up to date. You'll also save time and money because there's no need to remove wall hardware or drill new holes.
    • Adding a new fabric isn't just a "patch"; the new fabric (acrylic, micro-perforated, etc.) will have the same 10-12 year warranty and durability as a brand-new awning.

If you have any doubts about the condition of your awning's frame, motor, or fabric, we at MK Awnings would be happy to inspect it and advise you so you always choose the best option. Do you have an awning in Dénia, Jávea, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, or Ibiza that needs a second life? Send us a photo with your awning's measurements via WhatsApp and leave your contact information, and we'll tell you if it's worth replacing just the fabric and how much it would cost.
